People from all over send me emails and ask my advice on hoarding and on how to deal with the problem of a loved one who hoards. I truly enjoy helping everyone, and the other day I realized that some of what I’m saying to people in my emails is advice that may be helpful to you or someone you know as well.
So I decided to try something new and see how it goes: a free question-and-answer conference call for anybody who is trying to figure out how to help a loved one who hoards. To tell you the truth, I’m a little bit nervous, because I’ve never done a conference call before! This first one is going to be a pretty informal question and answer and I hope it will be a good chance for us to get to know each other.
Free Q&A Conference Call — Helping a Loved One Who Hoards
Tuesday, June 30 — 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time
Register now — it will only take a minute. Just fill in your first name and email address, and I will email you with full calling instructions:
Don’t worry, you won’t have to talk on the conference call unless you want to … you’ll be able to email me with your questions before the call. Only people who want to talk on the call will be talking, so if you’re shy or you just don’t want to talk, that’s fine.
Let me get one more thing out of the way: I’ve heard that some people use “free teleseminars” to try to sell stuff. This conference call is not going to be like that. The How to Help a Hoarder System isn’t going to be ready for a long time yet — I still have a lot of work to do — so you’re not going to be hearing about it on the call. I’m not selling anything on this call and I don’t have anything to sell even if I wanted to. I just want to get to know you all a little bit better.
I don’t want you to miss this, so please register for this free conference call today. If the call gets full, I’ll have to take down this registration form, so please make sure you can join us. Fill out the form now and I will email you the details right away:
I’m looking forward to talking with you!

I would like to register for the teleconference
Hi Jaye
I checked and your registration has been processed. Looking forward to having you on the call!
Hi. I am teaching one-on-one at that time. I would otherwise love to partake. How long will this teleconference take? I am finished at 8 pm, and can get in on it by about 8:15 EST. I do have a question that I am sure others will ask as well: How do you motivate an elderly or disabled person to reduce or eliminate a clutter problem when they are very defensive to the point of becoming hostile or cutting off communication with a loved one because he or she has broached the subject?
Hi Robin, thanks for your note! The conference call is starting at 7 and finishing up around 8 Eastern. I am going to try to record the call so that people who are not able to make it can listen to it later. Thank you very much for your question, I’ll be adding it to the list!
So glad I checked me email as the call is only 2 hours away! My brother and I are planning an intervention – of sorts – for our LOWH very soon, so can’t wait to call in! I’ll register right now!
Hi Sheri, I hope you were able to call in!
I am so glad that I found your site but so bummed that I missed the call today. I am traveling on July 1 to a family meeting about my grandmother’s hoarding. It is really out of control and we don’t know what to do – I printed your report on how to start a conversation. Thank you so much for your site and making me feel like there is hope.
Hi Hilary, thank you for your comment! I hope things are going well with your meeting today. Check your email, I have sent everyone a link to the recording of last night’s call
Catherine-
Great site. Please send me an email. I’d like to speak with you about hoarding. I own a company that specializes in cleaning up homes effected about hoarding. I’ll also be featured on the new A&E show “Hoarders” in the fall. Looking forward to catching up.
Best Regards-
Matt Paxton

I’ve only just come across your website and am sorry I missed the call. I would appreciate listening to it. I’m in Perth Western Australia. My hoarding is a big problem! Thanks Catherine
Hi Jenny, thank you for your comment! If you email me at catherine@howtohelpahoarder.com I’ll send you the link to the recording
Hi Catherine,
Someone very dear to me is a hoarder It’s so bad that you can’t even walk through her house anymore. She has 4 little boys & I’m so afraid of a fire & they will not be able to get out of the house. I bought a ladder for the upstairs window for an escape but… Her small bungalow was cute until my Mother passed away 4 years ago. Then she came down with ticks! Now She is getting worse & doesn’t care what anyone says to her. She doesn’t even have a place for the boys to seat at the table to eat anymore now they eat off the floor due to no place to sit.
She doesn’t cook due to her stove being covered with stuff to the ceiling. She does have safety guards on the knobs though. But there really is no place to walk for real! The steps going up stairs is cluttered on both sides as you walk up. You have to have little feet to get up the steps.
There front door is blocked with all kinds of stuff to the ceiling & no way for anyone to get in & help anyone if a fire breaks out.
What do I do, Her kids are so happy cause they no no better, they are 6,5,4 & 1. She takes a shower 2 times a day & her kids are clean when they come to visit.
Please help me. Where do I start with out getting her into trouble with the courts & stuff.
Thanks
Kathy
