“Keep up the great work!!!”
Dear Catherine, thanks so much for the free download of information.I am a Developmental Service worker, who works with the physically and mentally challenged. The company I work for just opened up a new housing project of independent living. We will have a client moving in next week, that is a compulsive hoarder.I didn’t know much about this disorder, so I downloaded your free information and took it to our office, so that myself and the other workers who will be supporting this individual may be able to understand this person and the disorder better. We all read it and was simply amazed at all the information which we didn’t know.So thank you very much from the staff at [Organization Name Removed] in [City Removed].Your information will be very useful in dealing with this client and understanding his needs. If we have any other questions, you can be sure you will hear from me.Thanks again for the very helpful information. Keep up the great work!!! Cindy G.

Afew years ago I started reading a book on the Psychology of Hoarding(published2004), I was very surprised to find when I did a checklist I was definitely in the category of chronic! I picked it up again at the end of last year and started to try and follow the steps in the early chapters. But just seem to move my clutter from one area to another. I have such difficulty throwing out.I can justify why everything should be kept!! I have only just started to talk it through with my family. Will look forward to your developing website and postings Thanks for the free report. Jemmy
My mother is dealing with this problems. This Friday and Saturday I’m going to her home to clean and clear out most of her things. I know this will be upsetting to her. But, this must be done — the one room (bedroom) is unbearable. How can I do this without the hurt?
Hello: Thank you for getting this info to me. My son is married to a hoarder. They live in a very small 2 bedroom home with my granddaughter. The home, basement and garage are full of useless things and trash. This week I went over and filled 2 pickup truck full loads from the house and tried to clean up. It made a dent but still there is way to much. It is unsanitary and overwhelming. I don’t know how to help as she doesn’t seem to think it is a big problem and even when I give her strategies to keep things more orderly it doesn’t matter. How do I get her professional help without alienating her?
I have a question that no one has talked about…..my mother is a hoarder I just learned about this this month and it’s making more sense. She hoards animals junk almost everything….can they hoard people? My mother controls many many people who are around her especially her children and people who are in need of help. I won’t go on but I’ve watched this and is very similiar to animals. Maybe I’m reading to much into it but I’m just learning about hoarding.
I was just wondering how successful Sheila was in cleaning and clearing out her mother’s things?
Hi Everyone – just so everyone can see the comments, I wonder if we can move the discussion over to the “Is It Hoarding” page? http://www.howtohelpahoarder.com/is-it-hoarding/
